Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy Service!

Name: Grace Patton

Profession: Occupational Therapist

Where are you from? Invercargill, New Zealand

Current Locum position? Community Rehab Unit, Band 6.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy being able to build a rapport/relationship with my patients and their family. Being able to see patients progress and regain function/independence, ultimately leading to them discharging home. I love working within a multi-disciplinary team which is supportive and everyone has different levels of experience in which you can learn from.

Personal achievements within your role?
In the short time I have been in this position I would say working with the physiotherapist to get one of our patients walking a short distance having not walked for about a month. It’s always an achievement to see patients progress not matter how big or small and seeing their elation at their own achievements.

How do you unwind from work?
Catch up with friends and family or hitting the couch with a glass of wine. Ideally exercise but not in this winter weather!

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) Hammock
2.) IPod
3.) Matches
