Band 7 Occupational Therapist in Paediatrics required for a paediatric Occupational Therapy Intervention service, based in Surrey. Salary 30K – 40K, full time (41 hours per week), ASAP start. Our client is currently recruiting for an experienced OT to join their school based in the Surrey area, the school provides educational services for its students who suffer with speech impairments.
With occupational therapy intervention integrated into the curriculum, the successful Occupational therapist will assist the students to develop touch typing, and support practical subjects such as Design and Technology, Food Studies, Physical Education. They will be required to provide support during life skill and travel training, the teaching of strategies to support organisation, visual perceptual/visual motor skills, alertness and sensory.
The successful candidate will be a source of clinical expertise and advice on Occupational Therapy patient care within the school, and will be frequently consulted by Occupational Therapy colleagues, other Health professionals within the multidisciplinary team and professionals working in external agencies
Job purpose:
*To carry out highly specialised pre-admission assessments for students referred to the Assessment centre.
*To provide Occupational Therapy treatment, management and advice using highly specialist clinical skills and knowledge for a caseload of students with a wide range of developmental difficulties and/or disabilities, with a special emphasis of speech and language impairment, many of whom may have highly complex special needs.
*To be a source of clinical expertise and advice on Occupational Therapy patient care and to be frequently consulted on a daily basis by Occupational Therapy colleagues, other Health professionals within the multidisciplinary team and professionals working in external agencies.
Clinical duties:
*Carry out highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and treatments of students within school and for students referred for pre-admission assessment with a range of very complex special needs.
*Identify clinical situations requiring emergency medical intervention and take appropriate action, without the presence of medical support, for example, a student having a seizure.
*Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to analyse and interpret highly complex assessment findings, from both standardised and non-standardised assessments in order to help to help contribute to an accurate diagnosis and prognosis as well as ascertain potential and formulate uni-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary targets.
*Assess students for specialist equipment, recommend and organise for its purchase.
*Set up and adjust specialist equipment for individual students and train parents/carers, education and/or residential care staff and other agencies in the use of the equipment.
Requirements:
Strong paediatric experience with a minimum level one in Sensory Integration training is essential. You must have a bachelor in occupational therapy and be currently registered with the HCPC, European applicants must have excellent written and oral English.
