Locum in the Spotlight - June Edition

Thursday 2nd June 2011

Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy service.

Name: Ellie Christensen

Profession: Occupational Therapist

Where are you from? Melbourne, Australia

Current Locum position? Band 6
Have just returned from a month of glorious travels and am not quite back in work mode yet! My last role was covering medical wards in a large acute hospital but my passion is care of the elderly.

What do you like about your job?
I like the diversity of it. One day you can be in the community assessing a client's money handling and road safety, the next day facilitating a group of veterans to reminiscence about their war days. I find it very interesting work and so I'm never bored.

Personal achievements within your role?
I'm very proud of coming and working in London, I never dreamt I'd manage this far away from my mum! I also have a very precious letter of appreciation from one of the first clients I ever treated on a stroke rehab ward. She was so grateful and I felt like I made a real difference to her life.

How do you unwind from work?
I love food, cooking and baking (and eating!). I got the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook for Christmas so I'm working my way though everything in that at the moment.
