Locum in the Spotlight - May Edition

Monday 9th May 2011

Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy service.

Name: Bronwyn Taylor

Profession: Occupational Therapist

Where are you from? New Zealand

Current Locum position?
Band 6 Occupational Therapist working in Community Intermediate Care. This is a rehab position completing home based rehab programmes and providing input into a local intermediate care facility. But since coming to the UK a year ago I’ve also done a stint on an Elderly Inpatient Ward and some time in a Wheelchair Service.

What do you like about your job?
I really like the diversity offered by a community post. No matter what age or condition of the client we’re expected to handle it which is a challenge I relish on a daily basis.

Personal achievements within your role?
I think the fact that I’ve taken on such different positions since starting work as a locum is an achievement in it’s own right! Being able to ‘hit the ground running’ and just get on with things in each new post is something I pride myself on, although I wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of other staff in each placement, which is something I have so far been lucky with.

How do you unwind from work?
I have certainly taken my fair share of holidays in the past year (the photo in this article was taken in Jordan in November last year). I also enjoy dancing and have been lucky to stay in towns with fantastic nightlife. Failing that, you’ll see me down the pub with a pint!
