Locum of the Month - November

Thursday 28th November 2013

Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy Service!

Name: Louisa Dawkins

Profession: Occupational therapist

Where are you from? Perth, Western Australia

Current locum position? Band 6 Occupational therapist - Community Rehabilitation

What do you enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy meeting clients and their families in their own homes, supporting clients to achieve their rehabilitation goals and connect with their community, and helping them stay on their feet.

Each week, a Physiotherapist, Rehabilitation assistant and I run a Strength and Balance group. It is great fun! It is fantastic to see clients get together once a week to complete the activities in the group. The clients seem to enjoy doing exercises together, learning about falls prevention and having a cup of tea in a supportive environment.

Personal achievements within your role?
I was initially concerned that I would get lost every day, making myself late for every home visit. However I am pleased to say that I am mastering London’s transport system and even finding some short cuts to save time on the road!

I am also learning and using a lot of new skills working in a transdisciplinary team.

How do you unwind from work?
I enjoy a ballet class every Tuesday night at a local dance studio, and going out to dinner somewhere in London with old and new friends. My guilty pleasure is watching Made in Chelsea on Monday nights with my housemates.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) Water
2.) A good hat
3.) Google maps
