Name: Abbie
Profession: Occupational Therapist
Where are you from? Newcastle, Australia
Current Locum position? Band 6 Occupational Therapist, covering areas including general medicine, surgical and orthopaedics.
Personal achievements within the role? I had worked predominately within the community in Australia, so working in a hospital setting for the first time, in a different country - in a different health system and within a busy hospital was challenging but a rewarding experience.
What do you enjoy about being a locum? Having the flexibility to travel - I have just returned from a 3-month European summer trip! Having the opportunity to expand my skills and experience in various settings and roles and meeting new people.
Most memorable moment within your career? Making a difference to people’s lives. One specific moment when I was leaving to come and work over here, one of my patients whom I had built strong rapport with, cried when I left.
