Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy Service!
Name: Frances
Profession: Occupational Therapist
Current Locum position? Band 5 Occupational Therapist within a Stroke Team
Personal achievements within the role?
After time working in mental health it has been brilliant to renew skills in a physical health setting, completing upper limb assessments again for example. In terms of achievements it has been a privilege to be a part of the patients journey of recovery and adjustment following a stoke, knowing that I have had a meaningful impact through assessment and planning interventions.
What do you enjoy about being a locum?
Being a locum means always working with new teams and professionals. Every experience is a new learning curve and challenge. I enjoy the flexibility and there is excitement each time I take on a new work assignment. It means hitting the books again and researching current best practice to assure I am up to date within that area. I am always discovering new things, and expanding my knowledge.
Most memorable moment within your career?
It's hard to pick a most memorable moment as there have been so many but I would have to say working in Early Intervention Psychosis in Coventry. The team that has had a great impact within my personal life. The personal meaning enhanced the pride I had in working for a specialist service which changes lives in such a significant way. Early Intervention Services provided when true to the model and ethos of EI provide clients and their families with the skills to have better futures and functioning in all areas of their lives. To have been part of that and develop strong therapeutic relationships with my clients. I will never forget the clients and families I supported in that role.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1) A lifetime supply of sun cream! As a pale skinned, red haired lady that item is essential for survival.
2) My best friend David for company and conversation. No matter the situation he can always make me laugh.
3) My Kindle, as I can happily spend until I'm rescued reading all the books I have saved.
