Each month JustOT would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Occupational Therapy service.
Name: Melita Ryan
Profession: Occupational Therapy
Where are you from? Perth, Australia.
Current Locum position?
Lead Occupational Therapist, Adult Orthopaedics.
What do you like about your job?
I have a great team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and we treat some very complex patients from all over the country. Every day is a different challenge; I’m not just supervising a team of Physio’s and OT’s, I’m providing specialist rehabilitation advice on complex patients to consultants that facilitates their surgical decision making.
Personal achievements within your role?
Developing more links between the inpatient Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists within my placement. Betting a Registrar a round of drinks that I could get a patient discharged before he could. Encouraging the staff to use an increased range of assessments and broadening their scope of practice. Refining my snow man making skills and having a job that I need to wear wellingtons to in the winter!
How do you unwind from work?
I try to head straight to the gym otherwise I head straight to the red wine!
