Lateness is no longer an excuse! TFL have spent months warning commuters about the proposed Olympics travel disruptions and not without good cause! Now the 2012 Olympiad is upon us you really need to ‘get ahead of the games’ to avoid unnecessary delays…
The sheer volume of spectators, athletes and press expected during the games is without a doubt going to make travelling in London a big challenge over the weeks ahead, and it may last longer than you think with the Paralympic Games ending on the 9th September.
Dates to watch out for…
Olympics 27th July – 12th Aug / Paralympics 29th Aug – 9th Sept
Have you planned your transport routes?
If you are working / travelling in and around London throughout the duration of the games, please be aware that:
-Certain stations will operate differently during the games
-Parts of the Jubilee line and Central line as well as the DLR will be exceptionally busy
-Expect delays on tube, rail and road journeys
-Road restrictions may apply on certain routes
-Walking and Cycling could be the quickest way to travel during the games, there will be more cycle hire companies and 700 extra cycle parking spaces available around London.
Watch out on the roads…
There may be changes to parking, loading and stopping restrictions on some of your usual routes so if you drive, it’s important you plan your journey very carefully to avoid being towed, receiving a fine or encountering congestion.
Games Lanes are open as of Monday 16th July, which are reserved for official VIP vehicles and on-call emergency vehicles only. The Games Lanes are operational for specific times each day, although we would advise avoiding them at all cost, or you could be hit with hefty fines.
